The Writer Who Almost Took the Bait

Be on guard against those who appear to support your writing and promise opportunities, but behind the praise, they want to use you rather than help you.
Matthew 7:15 Scripture for Writers
The Writer Who Almost Took the Bait

In a quiet inbox, one bright afternoon,
Came a message that made his heart hum a tune.
“Your writing is brilliant. Your future is near.”
Oh, the flattery sounded so lovely to hear.

“We’re Wordsmiths & Writers. We’ve spotted your spark,
We’ll lift you to fame from the shadows so dark.”
But something felt off in the shine of their claim—
No website, no history, no credible name.

From gmail.com came their grand invitation,
With “marketing secrets” and “fast publication.”
“Just pay us a fee and your book will take flight.”
But real doors don’t open by paying for light.

He paused and remembered what truth had to say:
Not every bright offer is sent God’s own way.
For shortcuts that glitter can lead you astray,
And cost you far more than you’re willing to pay.

So he turned from the trap with a wiser heart still,
And chose to keep writing with patience and will.
For growth isn’t rushed, and success isn’t bought—
It’s shaped over time by the lessons we’re taught.

So if praise comes too easy and pressure comes fast,
And promises sparkle too bright to last—
Step back, take a breath, let discernment begin:
Not every “big break” is a break you should win.
